River Birch pruning crisis!! Help!!?

I was pruning my river birch, when I noticed the branches were dripping. I tried the pruning sealant, but it wouldn't adhere to the open 'wound'. It's been about 12 hours and is still dripping profusely. Thanks in advance for any help!!
