What kind of paint should I use to paint a kitchen stool and should I use a sealant?

If it is bare wood, I would use an oil-based primer (killz) and then an enamel paint with gloss coat. Oil would work best, but enamel with gloss sheen would not need a sealant. If it is already painted or stained, sand it and then follow above procedures.
